Vejlerne On the border between Thy and Hanherred there is a unique world - an indescribable experiences for nature lovers. Here you find - the largest bird sanctuary in Northern Europe – a roughly 6.000 hectares large low-lying area consisting of grazed meadows, reed beds and brackish water lakes, a Ramsar area of international significance. A failed drainage project has created a peaceful paradise for birds and bird lovers.

Since Vejlerne is haven for birds people have no access to the area, but the birds can be studied from dams and bird towers. A lot of people sit with their binoculars in the verge of the road on the Bygholm dam, but you can get an even greater experience of Vejlerne by using the bird towers, e.g. by the old railroad dam between Frøstrup and Vust. Here you can walk through the reed beds on a small footbridge. Other thatched bird towers are located near the main road near Vesløs Huse and between Vust and the main road. In Vejlernes Nature Centre, located by the main road A11/29 you can find further information about the history and wildlife of Vejlerne. Here you can also examine the area closer through the binoculars that are set up. Maps and additional information can be picked up at the Tourist Offices.
